With our Washington friends here for a long weekend, we wanted to show them all the unique things we are enjoying here in Cypress, TX. If you are looking for good eats and fun outings near Cypress, here are some that we enjoy. This is a little break from my usual posts about learning as we travel, these stops were purely enjoyment with dear friends.
Buc-ee’s
It is hard to describe Buc-ee’s to those who have not seen it. It’s more than a gas station – though it is one since it has over 50 gas pumps! It has the best bathrooms EVER as there is always an employee who is cleaning the bathrooms. They hold the record for the world’s largest convenience store where you can find a wall of jerky, counters of fudge, fresh brisket sandwiches, lots of fresh to-go options and you should of course try the local favorite – a kolache. Our favorite foods to buy here are the candied nuts and the sea salt caramels. Cruise through the home goods section for so many fun gifts and souvenirs. There is always a steady stream of customers at this amazing stop. I recommend the one in Katy – it’s really big!
Galiana’s Tex-Mex and Agave Bar

This was our first Tex-Mex experience when we moved here and were were in love! Their chicken is cooked in agave making it so sweet and soft. We love everything on the menu from Tortas, Molcajette, Chicken Gabriella, and I always custom order the street tacos with shrimp and fish on them. I love trying to order something I’ve never had before and this time it was Queso Flameado – literally cheese on fire! We also encourage the kids (and myself) to order in Spanish – the wait staff is so encouraging as we practice a second language.
Black Rifle Coffee Company
I love a good roots story and BRCC has a worthy one founded by San Antonio veterans in 2014. They have a fun storefront and good coffee! Our friends returned home with merch and some special requests for coffee roasts. I personally love their chai tea- it is super spicy! We enjoy meeting new friends for coffee here, or getting some work done in a quiet space outside our home.
inSPIRE Rock Climbing Gym

This has been our best investment here! Our family discovered indoor rock climbing and we love inSPIRE Indoor Rock Climbing Gym! Just a few minutes from our house, a membership allows us to climb anytime and bring up to six guests a month for free, and they can rent gear ($8) if needed. We came a few times during our friend’s trip since it was dry and the perfect temperature. inSPIRE has three locations and our Cypress facility has 24,000 square feet of climbing, up to 63′ high walls, over 20 auto-belays, competition style bouldering, and a nice cafe with snacks, coffee and smoothies. I’ll bring the kids here during the day and we’ll park ourselves with lunch and school work with climbing between learning activities.
First Watch

This is a restaurant we have on the Boardwalk in Towne Lake, which is a fun place to visit just on its own. First Watch is a fresh cafe with quality ingredients and helpful wait staff. We love their juices – Morning Meditation with the ginger is so delicious and my husband likes the Morning Glory that has some vodka to wake you up with – be aware that in Texas you cannot be served alcohol before 10 on Sundays. The Million Dollar Bacon is a must try! Their recipe book lets you walk out the door with their culinary secrets to try at home which we do now regularly – try the potatoes 😉
